Consultants are the worst.

Take it from the experts – or rather anyone who has ever worked anywhere – that business is messy. Politics, accountability, bad bosses, lack of progress, etc., etc. It is so common, that business leaders and owners will actually pay someone outside of the business to come and help provide input and guidance on how to make the business less messy.

However, there are several reasons why companies don’t see the value in utilizing an outside consultant – despite their business inefficiencies. I’ll share with you some of the common ones.

1. They can’t see the plank in their own eye.

Far too many leaders are out of touch with what is really going on in their business. If the leaders don’t see it, chances are there are not many people in the organization who are willing to take it to the head honcho – either creating triangulation or just plain lack of visibility of issues.

2. There are too many consultants who have too little experience – and they ruin it for everyone else.

Don’t you just hate these people? Sorry, this is me. Young business professions can become greedy – because as seen in my next point there is big money in the consulting industry. I don’t consider myself greedy, but left to my own accord I would possibly provide poor information to an organization simply due to my lack of experience.

3. Consultants are way too expensive.

The up-front high fee of a consultant can be daunting. If your business is hurting, there might be little room for a 1 or 2-day session fee, especially if you don’t see any results.
